New Year, New Directions (and Yarn Absolutely Everywhere)
Share
There’s something about a new year that makes you want to shake things up a bit. Not in a burn everything down way (although… tempting), but in a gentle, creative, “what if I tried this?” sort of way. And that’s exactly where I’ve found myself lately — surrounded by yarn, half-finished ideas, and a very patient mannequin who has already seen too much.
This year, I’ve decided to experiment more. Less sticking rigidly to what I know works, and more leaning into curiosity. New stitches. New textures. New fibres. If it makes my brain light up and my hands itch to grab a hook, I’m giving it a go.
Enter: Blodwen (aka Bod the Bod)
One of the biggest shifts has been welcoming a new member into the studio — my body model, Blodwen. Or, as she’s affectionately known now, Bod the Bod. She stands there calmly while I pin, tug, mutter, and occasionally apologise to her for stabbing her with a crochet hook.
Having Bod has completely changed how I work. It’s allowed me to think more intentionally about fit and shape, especially as I move into more constructed, curated tops for spring and summer. I’m designing with real bodies in mind — from no bust to gloriously busty witches and everyone in between. Supportive where needed, floaty where wanted, and always comfortable enough to actually live in.
Playing With Texture (and My Sanity)
I’ve been having an absolute blast experimenting with texture. Openwork panels next to dense stitches. Soft cottons paired with drapier yarns. Pieces that feel light and breathable but still have that hand-crafted, slightly magical weight to them.
There’s something deeply satisfying about pushing past “this is how I usually do it” and discovering a stitch combo that makes you stop and go, oh hello… you’re staying.
Mermaid Energy Activated 🧜♀️
And yes — new mermaid cowls are emerging from the chaos. Scaly textures, ocean-inspired colourways, and that perfect in-between weight that works for mountain weather when the seasons can’t quite make their minds up. They’re still evolving, but I’m very excited about where they’re heading.
Chaos, But Make It Intentional
Right now, the cottage is full of crochet carnage. Projects draped over chairs, yarn in suspicious piles, and ideas scribbled on scraps of paper that I definitely won’t lose (lies). But it feels good. It feels alive. It feels like growth.
This new direction isn’t about perfection — it’s about play, confidence, and trusting that if I follow the thread (literally), I’ll end up somewhere interesting.
These new pieces will be hitting the web shop soon, and I can’t wait to share them with you. Thank you for being here, for cheering me on, and for embracing the weird, woolly magic with me.
Here’s to a new year of bold stitches, brave experiments, and yarn-covered joy —
